Battlefield 3 Bonus Blows Up In EA’s Face

Increasingly, games offer multi-player bonuses as an incentive for players to pre-order a game. However, the Physical Warfare pack for Battlefield 3, granting a Type 88 Light Machine gun, DAO-12 automatic shotgun, flash suppressor for the SKS sniper rifle, and exclusive armor piercing flechette ammo for the DAO-12 isn’t going over well with fans.

Hundreds have commented on both Reddit and EA’s forums encouraging people to cancel their pre-orders over the offer. It shows what a touchy thing such deals can be, and a similar deal three years ago with Battlefield: Bad Company resulted in a similar reaction.

Wii U Design Close To Final, Says Reggie

Let there be no mistake about the Wii U shown of at E3 2011, it was a prototype unit that was not final. However, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime indicates that the way the console and controller looks for the Wii U is close to done.

“In terms of the form factor of the console, it is quite near final,” said Fils-Aime. “Similarly the form factor of the controller is quite near final.”

“There is always the issue of a new hardware announcement cannibalizing sales of the current generation console (in this case, the Wii),” but Fils-Aime insists that won’t be the case. “We don t think that s going to be an issue and here is why. Let me focus in on the U.S. About 36 million units later, the consumer who is buying a Wii for the first time now is very different from from one buying the first 1 million Wii units. The consumer today loves the $149 price point. There is a wide range of software. For the consumer today, having a library that includes Wii Sports Resort and Wii New Super Mario Bros., Wii Donkey Kong Trooper Challenge it s a different consumer.”

“And so I continue to believe that the Wii will have a strong summer, fall, holiday season and we are going to continue to drive the Wii part of our business. It will be strong even after the Wii U launches,” he added. “They are just different consumers and we saw that just as an example when we launched the 3DS and continued to sell other units too.”

Call Of Duty Creators Look To Sci-Fi Future

Many believed that Infinity Ward founders Jason West and Vince Zampella would be creating another real world FPS title with their first Electronics Arts published title. However, EA Games label president Frank Gibeau hints that their next game will be more akin to Halo than Call of Duty.

“The idea is to have that rotation happen with Battlefield and Medal of Honor and keep it fresh so you don’t burn the teams down or over-annualize the product lines, said Gibeau. “Titles like Respawn – and I think the Insomniac title is a little bit more of an action game than a pure shooter – we’ll sprinkle those in where we see opportunistic gaps, either in a release schedule or in a genre standpoint.”

“Those typically are more sci-fi oriented shooters, whereas the Medal of Honor and Battlefield brands are obviously more modern military oriented, he added. So it allows us to pick and choose the best of the sci-fi shooters. It allows us to compete with things like Gears and Halo and put them on places in our release calendar where they’re not cannibalistic to the core business and that’s the essential strategy going forward.”

E3 2011 On A Boat

E3 2011 had a surprising number of trailers that involved boats in one way or another, as demonstrated in this cheeky and NSFW (due to lyrics) mash up video. It even excludes another boat-heavy game in Gears of War 3!

Facebook Tattoo Video Actually An Ad

A YouTube user recently posted a video of the transformation of her arm into a tattooed mass of Facebook friend photos. Just like friends on Facebook can be, however, it turns out the tattoo was rather impermanent.

The Dutch newspaper The Telegraaf is reporting that the stunt was just that… a stunt. Rotterdam tattoo artist Dex Moelker admitted that the whole thing was, in fact, an advertisement.

It is a try-out tattoo, a transfer, that washes off in a couple of days, said Moelker, explaining that the pictures took a couple of hours to apply and not 30 hours as the YouTube video detailed.

Dutch company Pretty Social probably sponsored the video, since they sell items with pictures of Facebook friends. The woman that got the tattoo thanked Pretty Social in the video, which is also featured on the company’s home page.
